Spain in Detail

Jueves (Thursday) 9

We had a long day in the streets. And with summer here we have less people to talk to and the people we do talk to are out of our area. But we found a guy on the metro who was a little tipsy and he loves Jesus. When we gave him a Book of Mormon he kept on kissing it and saying, "Jesu Cristo es en mi corazon." (Jesus Christ is in my heart) As my Spanish gets better so does my workload and people looking to me. That's scary. But I feel like I have a lot more trust from the ward then when I started in Barrio 5. I can actually talk to Carlos de Cuba but he still calls me Yankee. This transfer is going to be very hard I can tell already. Elder Peterson is zone leader so he needs to do companionship exchanges a lot. So this transfer I will have native companions, older companions (20 months), and even companions with less time than me. But even though being tired all the time added with learning a language; I love it here. I love the members, missionaries, the people, even the people who refuse to listen.

Viernes (Friday) 10

Well I'll be using my glasses for a while. I have a cold sore forming in my left eye now and plus everyone says I look better with glasses. Mel says that I look smarter, Elder Peterson says I look older, and Hermana Paves says I look friendlier. But now the more important part, what happened today. We had a meeting with Mel today and then we had another meeting after. When we were leaving Mel’s piso we realized we had no guy to go to the lesson. So with that we had couldn't enter our next appointments house. Mel overheard and said he would come and help us. I thought, "What is happening right now?" But we left and had a solid lesson with our new investigator. That is when you know you have a good relationship with an investigator, when he goes to help you out so you can teach another. Mel is leaving for the USA in two weeks and our new investigator wants to come up and water Elder Gefforos (Mel’s plant) during his vacation.

Sabados (Saturday) 11

Today was very interesting. A lot of weird things with very good stuff in it. We found this one lady and she basada (kissed) me and Elder Peterson (on the cheek). We can't do that. But we got a solid reference from her and she wants to meet tomorrow. Earlier in the week we met this guy from Spain named Rafa and he speaks perfect English. He calls us up and says he wants us to come meet some his college friends. I thought, "What are we doing here?" We got there and they were outside of a bar drinking, smoking, and drawing people on the street. When we sat down with Rafa everyone looked at us like we were four year olds in place we shouldn't be. One of the guys had a tattoo of a wolf on his shoulder like dads. The first thing they heard from the Mormon missionaries was, "Me gusta su tatuaje, mi padre tiene el mismo." (I like your tattoo. My father has the same.) The guy looked me and said in English, "That's awesome dude!" Then as we started talking more, we found that all of them thought Mormons were, well, not normal people. We did have trouble with one guy. He kept ranting about how there is no God and how can we believe that there is a God. We didn't say much because he didn't allow us the time to answer his questions. He ended up leaving without telling anyone. The people at the table asked what we said. "We said nothing," we responded. They all laughed and Rafa said that he didn't even like the guy so he was happy the guy left. As time went by we made new friends. Armando (tattoo) and a girl from Peru. Her name is Yolana and she is interested in listening to us. She says that when she saw missionaries like us, she would think; they are the geekiest, fun suckers, and many other things I don't want to put down. But she's cool and so is Armando. We gave him our number because he wanted to just talk with us. So today was an interesting day.

If you send pictures please send them via email it makes things easier to show people. And also can I have a picture of everyone as an individual?

Thanks,

Con mucho amor

Elder Broadbent
