Primero Transferencia

Me and my district in Barrio 5
I have had a rough week. I was sick for one whole day and my companion is leaving today. I´m scared for the coming week. I am area training my companion while I am still being trained as a missionary. But I´ll be fine. I still have my district, Elder Renner and Hermana Birnbaumer from the MTC.

Us with Elizabeth, a recent convert. She is the lady that quit
her job so she could attend church. So much faith!
We found out a very good thing this week. A family we´re teaching the father is actually a member. He was baptized 20 years ago. So we hope he can have receive the Aaronic priesthood and baptize his wife. That would be amazing.

Hermana Sanchez y Javi (Chocolate Rain)
I´ve been studying the book of Omni this week and is full of good things. Verses 2 and 3 are my favorite. How he says he not a good man and should´ve kept the commandments better during his life. But he says he is writing down his thoughts because he wants to follow the commandments of his father. He still strives to keep the commandments of his father even when he admits his is not a good man. That is the perfect example of humility and desire to follow what is right.

I don´t have much time left but I love you guys.

Estoy muy Feliz. (I am very happy)

Elder Schwenke and I in front of the Royal Palace

Being a missionary is hard work. Both physically and spiritually.

Physically:

I had a companionship exchange with someone in our district. Elder Schwenke left with Elder Mullens. I went with Elder Forsyth to teach people. Elder Forsyth is awesome, he´s from Colorado and only has two transfers till he heads home. We walked maybe 24 kilometers (a little over 14 miles if I´m thinking right) from appointment to appointment. I also had next to nothing to eat that day also so I was a little ornery at times. But we able to teach two people that day and they were some of the best lessons I had my entire stay here.

Spiritually:

The one baptism we had never happened. Jose stopped taking our calls and the last time he saw us he said doesn´t know if he wants to be. He was the best investigator, now we´ve lost contact with him. He said he knows the Book of Mormon is true, and what we teach makes perfect sense but we still might lose him, for now. Hopefully he will come back someday. The seeds are planted. Yet we are teaching this family from Chile and I had the best experience of my life being with them. We were teaching the significance of prayer and when we were done the scripture we shared was in Enos. Sandra testified to what we are teaching is true because that is how God wants us to pray and she knows this is what her family needs.

I want to share the scripture I´ve been reading over and over again. But I still love hearing it.

Y si, alguno de vosotros, tiene falta de sabiduría, pídala a dios. Quien da a todos abundantemente, y sin reproche, le seré dada. Santiago 1: 5 (James 1:5)

Sorry about the skype thing.

Sorry about the skype thing. I wasn´t much of a talker. It´s like you said, I had so much to say but when the time came I couldn´t remember anything. That´s sometimes how it is when you are teaching someone but somehow you always say something of worth to the person. I have so many pictures I want to send you guys but the computers here don´t like American cameras.

The one thing I want to send you pictures of are of my companion, the members, and the sites of the Spain. We went to the Grand Palace and Elder Schwenke asked how much money it took to build it and I´m wondering how long it took to build it. It is huge and wouldn´t surprise me if it´s the size the whole grounds of USU.

We have a new family to teach and it is a family of five from Chile. They have a family friend who is a member and have always liked her. After we taught them the mom said this is what this family has been missing. She went and basically bore her testimony of Jesus Christ and said she wants us to come and teach her and her family again. One of the sons was taking classes to be baptized in the Catholic Church and was to be baptized this week. He then said he had a feeling to hold up his baptism date until we came and taught. He said he will start taking lessons from us to wee what we have to offer.

My testimony is growing both in knowledge and in the language. This is a great and marvelous work. Reminds of the Old Testament when Moses is shown the burning bush and Moses denies that he can do it and god chose the wrong man. I felt like Moses for the past two months, the work is too great for a man like me. I am afraid to speak to others because the language and I have not enough faith in my abilities to teach. Yet god tells Moses He will work his wonders through him.

Yo sé mi Salvador vive. Yo sé el Libro de Mormón es la palabra de Dios. Yo sé el evangelio resturado he bendicó mi vida.

(Translation by someone who actually speaks Spanish, not Google)
I know that my Savior lives. I know the Book of Mormon is the Word of God. I know the Restored Gospel has blessed my life.

Hey people.

Elders Broadbent and Schwenke

We found these two awesome families from Peru and one of them have never heard of the Mormons. Llaniña and Darwin never heard of us but Darwin wants to hear more and Llaniña wants to be friends.

The Ortundas have heard of the Mormons and they like the Mormons. We have a lesson set up with them today.

Other than finding two awesome families, Elizabeth came to church yesterday and said that she quit her job so she can come. Jose is doing fine, he is excited to be baptized on the 23rd of May. Andres has been with us non-stop this week.

So we´ve seen a lot of people but in terms of finding people, this has been the hardest week. I´ve been spit at and yelled at and one guy about 25 years old tried to punch me in the back of the head. We walked up to this lady about grandmas age and right as we started talking she said things in Spanish I couldn´t understand because she was yelling and babbling. I asked my companion what she said, she was calling us devil worshippers and declaring god will tie us down with our master in the last days.

I´ve been here only three weeks and I feel the same persecution that the early saints did (besides the being drove out, tarred and feathered).

But I don´t marvel at the bad acts that people to do us. I marvel at how good the members are and how they build my own faith. Elizabeth quitting her job, Andres coming with us every day, and member of the ward who bore his testimony even though he´s had a stroke and a hole in his neck because he used to smoke.

That´s all I can type.
Love Elder Broadbent.
